Rachelle Byrd selected as Acting Principal at Manchester Elementary

Rachelle Byrd Ms. Rachelle Byrd has been selected as Acting Principal at Manchester Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year. Ms. Byrd will replace Theressa Prather who recently announced her resignation. Superintendent Karst Brandsma will ask for board approval of his recommendation at the June 21 meeting and the position will take effect on July 1.

“We value the experience and skillset that Ms. Byrd offers as a school leader. She has an impressive background in elementary instruction and will transition smoothly at Manchester,” commented Superintendent Brandsma. “Not only has Ms. Byrd made a great impact at Mullenix Ridge Elementary, but she was also a finalist candidate for Assistant Principal at John Sedgwick Middle School.”

Ms. Byrd is currently an Instructional Specialist and Head Teacher at Mullenix Ridge Elementary and has also served as Instructional Coach and classroom teacher during the last fourteen years. 

Barbara Pixton, principal at Mullenix Ridge commented “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate one of the most outstanding educational leaders I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Rachelle is always eager to serve others which makes her a great leader and one that others want to follow. She is known throughout the district for her knowledge and expertise. She is a strong advocate for all students and will never hesitate to go the extra mile to do what is best for kids. She has been the administrator for the summer reading program, BOOST, and has also been a guest administrator in almost every building in the district. I know she will be a wonderful asset to Manchester.” 

Ms. Byrd served four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bridge as a Gunner’s Mate. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University Southeast and obtained her Master in Teaching and Administration Internship at City University. 

“I have served the South Kitsap School District for fourteen years. I live here and I am invested in the community,” stated Ms. Byrd. “I am both honored and humbled to accept the position of Acting Principal of Manchester Elementary. I look forward to meeting the students, parents and staff of Manchester Elementary and continuing to make it a warm, welcoming place where kids come first!”
