Congressman Kilmer visits South Kitsap

On May 30, Congressman Derek Kilmer visited South Kitsap School District for an educator roundtable discussion at Mullenix Ridge Elementary. The discussion focused on educational issues that impact schools including Federal and State budget proposals. Congressman Kilmer was joined by South Kitsap Superintendent Karst Brandsma, Career and Technical Education Director Sara Hatfield, Assistant Superintendent Jay Villars, Mullenix Ridge Principal Barbara Pixton, PSE President Jacque Meddles, para educator Sallyann Wickham, John Richardson and Sherry Keenan from the South Kitsap Education Association, and National Education Association board member Martha Patterson. He listened to feedback from the group on what the proposed budget and will mean for our schools and how program cuts will impact our students.
